Keiko Miyadera is a native of Japan and obtained her degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tokyo, Japan in 2005. She subsequently completed an internship in small animal surgery at the University of Tokyo Veterinary Medical Center. During her time at the University of Tokyo, she carried out research with Profs Hiroyuki Ogawa and Nobuo Sasaki on hereditary diseases in small animals. She moved to the UK in 2006 to pursue a PhD in molecular genetics at the University of Cambridge, Department of Veterinary Medicine, with supervisor Dr David Sargan , and advisor Dr Cathryn Mellersh . After completing her PhD in 2011, she moved to the US to work with Prof Gustavo Aguirre at the University of Pennsylvania as a postdoctoral researcher. Since 2012, she has been undertaking an ECVO residency with mentor Dr William Beltran at the University of Pennsylvania. She is interested in the molecular basis of hereditary retinal diseases and wishes to become a clinician scientist working between the clinic and the bench.
